Recent Praise for Chester

Chester Tearooms has been undergoing some work and the feedback for this month shows that it has really paid off!

Summer time is upon us, finally…and our customers in Chester are in for a real summertime treat!
With another 28 outside seats available, they will be able to relax outside in the sunshine, with fantastic views of the Cathedral, whilst indulging in our delicious treats!

We thought we would share some of the reviews we have already had this month;

'Tasteful Tea Heaven'

'Besides the tasteful décor, tempting cakes and selection of books, the drinks menu is extensive and includes traditional teas and coffees as well as an extraordinary range of speciality cold and hot drinks. The teas are amazing; I love the Japanese style green teas while my husband raves about the high quality of the black teas (he's the son of a tea-planter and spent his childhood tasting teas). We'll be back!'

'The Sumatran coffee is one of the best cups of coffee I've ever had... But then it was a lazy sunny afternoon with delightful company, delicious scones (all the trimmings), a busker playing Spanish guitar on the nearby walls and the cathedral belfry chiming out, perfect.'

'We were looking for somewhere for lunch outside as weather so sunny. Struggling around Chester - then found Beaton's by accident. Very peaceful. Staff lovely. Recommend highly.'

'Just how a tearoom should be...'

'We have recently visited Beatons Tearooms and we were extremely impressed with the cleanliness and quality of the food. The choice on the menu was extremely good and the different teas/coffees very impressive. The cakes looked beautiful on show and the afternoon tea exquisite. Was also very impressed with how immaculate the bathrooms were. The setting of the tea room was just beautiful, right next to the Cathedral and out of the hustle and bustle of the main street.'

'The decor is lovely inside Beatons tea rooms. Coffees and teas were of a good quality and served promptly.'

'There was plenty of choice on the menu - homemade soup, quiche, sandwiches, afternoon tea and baked potatoes to name a few lunchtime treats. I had the tomato and basil soup and my partner had a tuno mayo wholemeal sandwich. The sandwich looked very fresh and was served with plenty of dressed salad - he really enjoyed it, everything that came out looked great - the homemade cakes looked amazing.'

'Drinks wise - he had coffee, which again he said was excellent and I had earl grey which was lovely. I have to mention the cups and teapots which reminded me of an Alice in Wonderland tea party being all in pastel shades.'

'Service was very good; the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a really good experience and I will be back.'

'Great for a Light Lunch.'

'Visited this lovely clean, bright tearoom for lunch. The service was top rate, the food well prepared and tasty, a great selection of teas with clean, bright lavatories'

'I had the homemade fish cakes which were lovely. The ratio of fish to potato was good, they were freshly prepared and came with a good salad. My partner had traditional rarebit which she thoroughly enjoyed.'

'We both had different teas which were well prepared and presented. Overall the value was top rate.'

'A Hidden Gem although I live in Chester I rarely take the cut through to the walls that would lead me to this tea rooms; in fact I only realised that the restaurant that was there previously had gone a couple of months ago. I was very impressed with the decor - its light, airy and clean looking. I love the furniture, a combination of wicker armchairs and your traditional seating. I particularly liked the hot pink on the walls and I have to say even the toilets are tastefully decorated.'

'Well worth a visit!'

Make sure to pay Beatons a visit when in Chester to enjoy a truly restorative experience!

Tisbury's Top Cat! Harry McGookin

Beatons ‘Bod’ for July

Each month we introduce you to a member of the Beatons team or one of our core contributors or suppliers. They give you a little insight as to what gives them their sparkle and what they enjoy about being an essential part of the Beatons Tearooms group.

Beatons Bod: Harry McGookin

What's your role and what do you like best about your job?
Hi I’m Harry Mcgookin I am the Manager of Tisbury Tearooms and also the main cook here. I’ve been with the business since it first started and I love making food that customers really enjoy.

What's your favourite edible or drinkable from our menu?
The lamb and lentil stew is my favourite hot dish and the scones are my favourite sweet treat.

And how about your favourite book from our shelves?
The fun is in the discovering! No particular one, but there are some great cooking books, and I'm a fan of the geography and history sections.

Which of the ways we like to go about things at Beatons means most to you and why?
Gracious hospitality because it’s all about the personal attention that I try to give every customer that comes through the door - whether it be through giving my dishes the personal touch, or me helping front of house and greeting customers coming in.

If you were an animal, bird or creeping creature what would you be and why?
I would love to be a cat. Because it’s not very often I get to be lazy and chill out, now that I am Managing Tisbury's Tearoom.

Can you share a practical tip for our online audience?
Yes! Before putting scones in the over make sure the mixture is as cool as it can be, because it helps them to rise better.

What - outside work - makes your skin tingle?
I play tennis so I'm really trying to improve my game this year and looking forward to a few tournaments.

Lastly, what are you most looking forward to in terms of Beatons' events or future plans?
What I'm looking forward to the most is the expansion of the business, that being national and international and also helping Tisbury’s Tearoom continue to grow as a business too.

Keeping it Local!

Supporting Local Heroes…

We are proud to announce our latest initiative in ‘keeping it local’ and showing support to our communities.

We are now offering a 10% discount to all who hold a military discount card. This will impact mostly Blandford and Crowthorne as these locations have garrisons very nearby.

Blandford Camp has over 2000 soldiers and theirfamilies residing there which makes a considerable impact on our local community.

Soldiers from Blandford Camp have long taken part in organising and running many community wide events, ranging from the smaller fêtes held in the area, the Georgian Fair and the Huge Steam Fair every summer. It is undeniable that the personnel of the camp ‘give back’ and ‘keep it local!’ And we are happy to be able to offer something in return.

As well as making these families feel welcome in to Beatons we are confident that it will also encourage Camp residents to visit other local shops nearby. Helping build our communities in to the busy, bustling places that we all aim to create!

Tisbury Beatons have decided to instead offer the same 10% discount to local group AMITY.

The ladies group which meets at Donhead St Mary village hall, draws its membership from the Donheads and surrounding villages offering friendship, stimulating talks with good teas, interesting trips and fundraising events.

Amity - the word means friendship - was formed seven years ago when it was decided to break away from the WI in order for the group to fundraise for charity with last year's beneficiary (2014/15) being Wiltshire air ambulance.

Ann Danby, chairman of the local Amity group was delighted and comments, ‘What a wonderful offer, I am sure that this will result in encouraging members to shop in and around Tisbury. Thank you.’
We hope so too and look forward to delivering our gracious hospitality to all who take advantage of these offers!
